Salt Lake Bees Check In
Welp, I think it is time to check in on the Salt Lake Bees, the triple A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim). As I sit here today, 8/28/2025, watching them play Round Rock Express they are down four in the top of the seventh. Sadly, being down is not uncommon for this team this year. The Bees find themselves 8th overall in the 10-team league with a winning percentage of .433. Which is not ideal but it is an improvement from their first half performance where they were dead last in the standings with a .392 winning percentage. With 21 games left to play in the second half they are doing much better. They are sitting at 6th with a winning percentage of .491 which is kissing distance from .500. Though unless something changes in this game, I expect them to put another tick in the loss column.
I’m of the opinion that winning is not everything, though it is definitely one of the most important things in a game. To get a little more under the hood of this team let’s dive into their team batting and pitching stats. They are 9th in Plate Appearances, 7th in At Bats, 8th in Runs Scored, and 8th in Hits. I think the biggest bummer is that they are leading the league in strike outs with 1290 almost a full 100 strike outs above the 2nd place Sugar Land Space Cowboys 1192. Though the bees do have 233 more Plate Appearances than the Space Cowboys. Couple all of this with a .258 Batting Average it starts to look like a team that could benefit from being more selective at the plate. I mean while they are not last in Base On Balls…they are 9th…so maybe being more selective would help bump them up on the BB leader board.
On the pitching side they do not fair much better. They are 9th in Earned Run Average with a 6.24 ERA and 6.73 Runs Allowed per 9. They are leading the league in Hits Allowed, Home Run Hits Allowed, and Hits Allowed per 9. I think most folks realize these are not the stats you want your pitching staff to be leading in. Thankfully they are only 6th in wild pitches, though I would prefer them to be in the top 50% instead of the bottom 50%, but at least they are not last. Taking these pitching stats with the batting stats, I think we can see why the bees find themselves 8th in the league. Though as mentioned above there are 21 games left in the season so there is still time to improve all these stats.
Before I leave you I guess I should update you on the Bees vs Round Rock game I’m watching (8/28/2025). The Bees just lost 3-7 with the final out coming on a ground out, so chalk another one up in the loss column. Thank you for reading and most importantly thank you to the Bees for playing baseball and giving me something to write about. All the Bees can do after a loss is get out there again and give ‘em hell, and when they do I will be cheering for them! Next time I’ll be taking a deeper look at their hitters and pitchers.
